“Guitar Notes has inspired me to open my eyes about the way I see me as a musician now…I can feel the vibes of the guitar calling me, telling me to play it every time I see one in the music store. I never actually tried playing one because I’m scared…I’ve played the piano for about seven years…” –Sophia
From Mary Amato:
Sophia, I hope you find a way to just play a guitar sometime…yes, you can go into a music store and just ask to try one. I know it’s scary. I still get intimidated by the guys who work in music stores because they’re usually really good musicians. Tell them you’ve never played and you just want to try. Try a smaller body, narrow neck guitar like the Luna parlor guitar.
In the meantime, you can try making up a song of your own on piano. Here’s a chord progression for your left hand:
Am/Em/ Line #1 of your verse
Am/Em/ Line #2 of your verse
Am/Em/ Line #3 of your verse
Am/G/ Line #4 of your verse
Here’s your chorus:
Dm/Am/Dm/G
Dm/Am/G
Just play those basic chords with your left hand and don’t play anything with your right hand, just sing whatever melody seems to fit. Give it a try. Just play!
