Music energizes, comforts, expresses, and inspires.
My focus is on songwriting, and I try to push myself to write in lots of different styles. The one constant is that I love vocal harmony. Over the years, I have sung and played (guitar and uke) as a soloist and in a number of different duos and bands.
I teach privately and enjoy helping students to find their voices, to write their own songs, and to overcome stage fright. I also work with organizations, such as Carpe Diem Arts, to teach songwriting workshops, residencies, and retreats for adults, teens, and/or children.
My songwriting inspiration often comes in project form and, because I play around with so many styles, you can’t get a sense of my work by listening to any one project. Some of my projects include:
Rumi Chants and Songs
STEAM (science-based) Love Songs
Songs for the Novel Guitar Notes
Song for the Novel Get Happy
A Cappella or Group Songs
Songs for the children’s book series, Lucy McGee
You can hear my drafts, my projects, and my teaching mp3s on my Soundcloud channel. Beware that it is full of lots of experiments–including some work that I do for little kids and some elementary-school poetry residencies.
Some of my often-played old and new loves:
The Head and the Heart
Joni Mitchell and Laura Nyro, of course
